How it works

Formulas

Boxes = length × width × (1 + waste %) ÷ coverage per box, rounded up

Worked example

Input: 15 × 12 ft room, 10% waste, 20 sq ft per box.

  1. 15 × 12 = 180 sq ft.
  2. 180 × 1.10 = 198 sq ft.
  3. 198 ÷ 20 = 9.9 → 10 boxes.

Result: 10 boxes (200 sq ft).

How to use

  1. 1Enter the room length and width.
  2. 2Add a waste allowance: 10% for straight lay, 15% for diagonal or herringbone.
  3. 3Enter the coverage per box from the label.
  4. 4Buy the number of boxes shown.

10% for a standard straight installation; 15% or more for diagonal, herringbone, many corners or a long, narrow room. Keep a spare box for future repairs.

How do I measure an L-shaped room?

Split it into rectangles, measure each, and add the areas together (or add the boxes from each).

Can I use metric units?

Yes. Switch to Metric and enter meters and centimeters; results show cubic meters, square meters or tonnes alongside US units.
